Kotuku is a kahikatea carvel planked launch built in Blenheim by S G Estcourt and sons. She was originally designed as a tender for small yacht races and the plans were published in Popular Mechanics. A cabin was added during the build. She spent most of her early years cruising the Sounds, was onsold and re-purchased by the Estcourt family who fefitted her and added a diesel engine.
