LAUNCH YEAR: 2006
LENGTH: 8m
DESIGNER: Logan/Bailey & Lowe replica
BUILDER: Malcolm Sowman

Ellen was built of fibreglassed strip plank cedar in 2004 from a "plug" taken from an old abandoned hull in Kopu. She is probably a "Milkmaid" design by Bailey & Lowe or Logan (many yards built small boats like Ellen in the late 1800's). They were used to ferry supplies to and from farms and islands around the coast. Originally, boats like Ellen would have been powered by sail but she is now powered by a 29HP diesel with standard straight drive enabling her to cruise comfortably at 7 knots.
