Alex is an Arrow class sailing dinghy, a class of homebuilt plywood sailing dinghy developed in the 1950's. The class was raced at Howick Sailing Club and the Glendowie Boating Club. They usually have a crew of two and carry a 72 sq ft mainsail and a single luff spinnaker.
