She has a kauri carvel planked hull built in Dargaville and the original engine which is a Scottish Kelvin Ricardo 4 cylinder paraffin (or petrol) powered device. It has two sets of two cylinders each with a carburettor enabling one set to be turned off to save fuel. Many of these engines were used in Scottish trawlers. Aroha was hauled from Dargaville to Lake Rotoiti in 1950 where she has resided since in completely original condition. Warwick Hutchinson purchased her in 2002 and renamed her after his mother who had purchased the family bach at the Lake also in 1950.
