One of our members has advised us of potential hazards in the Okere Arm, including this one which caused damage to his boat's hull, prop shaft, prop and keyway on Wooden Boat Parade Day. This anchor system appears to have come from the two floating islands that are in front of the Taheke Marae, which are a DOC and local school project to enhance nesting prospects for the endangered Dabchicks. The anchor systems appear to have been failing for some time, causing the islands to float away, and even though they have been "rescued" and returned to their usual position it seems that new anchor systems have been used to do this and the old ones had not been located and removed. Lake Wardens have been notified and hopefully action will be taken by those responsible for the islands. However, please be aware of the potential risk if you are passing through this area.

Club members Stan and Janelle Changuion own a lovely old wooden boat called Kiri, and are keen to find an available mooring, boat shed or safe parking spot (for the boat on her trailer).
