We were fortunate in acquiring the services of John Welsford as chief judge for the years 2002 & 2003
John, a resident of Rotorua, is an internationally recognized small boat designer whose excellent book "New Zealand Backyard Boatbuilder" (published by Reed) has been sold worldwide.
John impressed us with his succinct comment and his wide knowledge of boats of all shapes and sizes.
A typical Kiwi bloke, he is always willing to help aspiring boatbuilders. Many of his designs can be seen sailing, cruising or rowing on our lakes.
John admitted that the 2002 judging was difficult because of the sheer variety of boats in the parade. 2003, with the addition of a new section classifying boats by age, was indeed a further challenge for him.
To get to know more about the 2002 & 2003 chief judge have a look at his interesting and informative website.

The Judges decision was final and no correspondence will be entered into.
