Parade of Classic & Wooden Boats

Lake Rotoiti

North Island, New Zealand.

8th Annual Flotilla

Saturday 5th February 2005

We were again fortunate in acquiring the services of Chris Laird as chief judge for the 2005 parade. Chris has had a lifetime of boating from sailing dinghies to large racing yachts, from power boats with some offshore racing to large launches and has been holidaying at Rotoiti for 55 years.
His occupation for the last 30 years has been a Marine Surveyor / Loss Adjuster acting as damage/pre purchase Surveyor, Salvage Contractor and Marine Consultant.
He is passionate about old wooden boats, both large and small, and takes a particular interest in the restoration and preservation of our lovely old ladies of the sea.
He currently owns two 12 foot clinker dinghies and a 16 foot clinker launch with an original 6hp Norman air cooled motor.
He sees the regatta as a magnificent way to generate public enthusiasm in the restoration and presentation of our maritime history, an interest which is still in his view far short of what is needed to preserve our classics.
"Thankyou Chris for giving this association your time and the passion with which you carried out your task".

The Judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
